Medication Management
For some individuals, medication is needed to manage intense symptoms
so that they can focus at home, work, and/or in psychotherapy. Our psychiatrists will
conduct a thorough evaluation before prescribing medication. Typically, medication is
initially prescribed in low does and gradually increased overtime based on any side effects until the therapeutic dose is reached. This requires patients to attend more frequent sessions in the beginning (e.g., weekly, bi-weekly) and less frequently (e.g., 1x/month, 1x/3months) after the therapeutic dose is reached.
For patients requesting medications with addictive profiles (e.g., benzodiazepines, opiods, etc…), the psychiatrist may request psychological testing and/or random urine tests to reduce the risk for abuse.
